Naan

Mon 11 August 2014

Simple naan on a pan.

Gives 8 pcs. Not difficult.

Ingredients

  • Dough
    • 500g flour
    • 14g dried yeast
    • 3 tsp baking powder
    • 3dl lukewarm water
    • 4 tbsp yogurt
    • 2 tsp salt
    • 8 tbsp melted butter
  • Other
    • Olive oil
    • Kitchen brush

Method

1.

  • Put half of the flour in a bowl, add yeast and water. Mix with a fork.
  • Cover and rest for 30 min.

2.

  • Add rest of the flour, yogurt, salt and butter. Knead to mix (but no further kneading needed).
  • Cover and rest for 15 min.

3.

  • Sprinkle some flour on a surface and knead the dough until it's not sticky.
  • Divide into 8 pcs and rest for 5 min.

4.

  • Flatten pieces to about 3-4 mm thick (pancake size).
  • Smear a bit of oil in a hot pancake pan and put a piece in.
  • It's done really quickly, so smear oil on the other side (using a brush) then flip.
  • Cooking time per naan 2-3 min.

Notes

Be careful with the oil, only very little is needed. If you add too much, your naans will be a bit greasy.

Could try a slighly lower (than ripping hot) pan temperature.
